Set Program Defaults in Windows 7

Here is one way to set the default programs in Windows 7.

Click the Start Button and type "set default" and click on the "Set your default programs" link that shows up.

After you click on that, a new Window should appear.  It will take a little while before the list of programs shows up.  You can click on various programs on the left side to set them as Default.  When you click on a particular program, it will tell you whether it's set to be the default file type for what it can handle.  If you want it to open everything it can, click on the "Set this program as default" link.

If you want to decide manually what it opens, click the "Choose defaults for this program" link.

In the list that pops up, you can check the box for a file extension to set this program as the default program for that extension, or uncheck the check box for a file extension to unset this program as the default.

Get Java to allow Oasis to run

2014-04-17:  It appears that these instructions still work with Java 7 Update 55. After updating to 55, you'll probably need to restart before Internet Explorer will load Oasis.  This post was originally written for Update 51.

This set of instructions might help you get past a notice that looks like this:

If you're getting that notice, first, go to http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp and make sure you're running the most recent version of Java.  If you aren't, upgrade to the newest version.  After that, click the Start Button and type "Configure Java" in the search box.

Click on the result, and a "Java Control Panel" window should open.  Click the "Security" tab at the top, then click on the "Edit Site List..." button.

A dialog titled "Exception Site List" should pop up.  Click "Add", then type "https://oasisweb.uga.edu" in the text area that appears.  Click OK.

After you click OK, you should go back to the Java Control Panel, and the Oasis site should be listed.

If it looks like the above capture, then click OK to get out of the dialog, restart your browser, and try to log in to Oasis again.
