Connect to the UGA VPN

Download the Cisco VPN AnyConnect client from UGA (link alive as of 2014-07-22).  You'll need to log in with your MyID to download it.

If that doesn't work, the newest link might be at the bottom of the Remote Access VPN website under the "Other Installers" heading.

Run the executable you get.

Install the software:

If a Windows permission box pops up, Click "Yes" to let the install continue.

Click the Start Button and Type 'anyconnect'.  Click on the search result.

The AnyConnect client should appear:

Type remote.uga.edu in the text box and click Connect.

Another box should pop up.  Choose the style of connection want to use.  If you want to use Archpass, type in the Archpass code before your password in the password box.

Download files in bulk from OneDrive

You can use this method to download a group of files from OneDrive.

I am using Internet Explorer 11 in this example.

First, browse to the level above the folder you want to download.  In this case, I'm downloading an example folder I shared between accounts.

If you want to download the entire folder, you can hover over the blue square for the folder and click the checkbox:

If you want to pick specific files, click on the folder.  When you're in the folder, hover over the files you want and click their corresponding checkboxes.

In both of the above cases, a Download button will appear after you check the first item.  Once you're done checking the items you want to download, either the whole folder or individual files, you should click the Download button.  In IE, a yellow ribbon should appear across the bottom of the window.

Click Save.  You can note the name of the zip file you're downloading listed on the bar.

After the download is done, click "Open Folder".

A Windows Explorer windows should arrive.  The zip file should be highlighted already.  You can right-click on the file and use 7-zip to extract the file to a folder.

When that's done, a folder should appear in the list.  If you chose the option similar to the one circled above, it will be named the same as the zip file without the .zip extension.

You can browse into the folder, and the files you chose should be in there.

Hope that helps!

Log in to Novell on an FCS Windows 7 computer

Here is how to log in to the Novell Client on a Windows 7 computer after being authenticated to the computer.

The Novell system tray icon may not be visible, so if you don't see a red 'N' in the bottom right hand corner, click on the triangle icon to see the rest.

Right-click on the 'N' and a menu should appear.  Click on "Novell Login..."

Novell Login window should pop up. Type your FACS username.

Then, click on the drop-down menu for "Login Profile:" and click on FACS. It's already selected, but it needs to be selected again the first time for it to work.

If the "Advanced >>" button is no longer grayed out, then type your password and click "OK".

This error means you typed the wrong password or username:

If you don't get logged in and that error above isn't what you're getting, click the "Advanced >>" button.  The settings should look like this:

Add Recent Places to Favorites in Windows Explorer

If "Recent Places" is no longer listed in the Favorites in Windows Explorer, you can try this to get it back:

Go to Windows Explorer.

Right click on Favorites and click "Restore favorite links"

For me, at least, the Recent Places menu returned when I did that.

Set Program Defaults in Windows 7

Here is one way to set the default programs in Windows 7.

Click the Start Button and type "set default" and click on the "Set your default programs" link that shows up.

After you click on that, a new Window should appear.  It will take a little while before the list of programs shows up.  You can click on various programs on the left side to set them as Default.  When you click on a particular program, it will tell you whether it's set to be the default file type for what it can handle.  If you want it to open everything it can, click on the "Set this program as default" link.

If you want to decide manually what it opens, click the "Choose defaults for this program" link.

In the list that pops up, you can check the box for a file extension to set this program as the default program for that extension, or uncheck the check box for a file extension to unset this program as the default.

Get Java to allow Oasis to run

2014-04-17:  It appears that these instructions still work with Java 7 Update 55. After updating to 55, you'll probably need to restart before Internet Explorer will load Oasis.  This post was originally written for Update 51.

This set of instructions might help you get past a notice that looks like this:

If you're getting that notice, first, go to http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp and make sure you're running the most recent version of Java.  If you aren't, upgrade to the newest version.  After that, click the Start Button and type "Configure Java" in the search box.

Click on the result, and a "Java Control Panel" window should open.  Click the "Security" tab at the top, then click on the "Edit Site List..." button.

A dialog titled "Exception Site List" should pop up.  Click "Add", then type "https://oasisweb.uga.edu" in the text area that appears.  Click OK.

After you click OK, you should go back to the Java Control Panel, and the Oasis site should be listed.

If it looks like the above capture, then click OK to get out of the dialog, restart your browser, and try to log in to Oasis again.
